Basic Ballroom Registration Closed
Here is your chance to learn the basics of the foxtrot, cha cha, swing, waltz and tango, and the fundamentals of all social dancing. Taught in the Mark Segal Ballroom, this course will provide singles and couples with the tools to enjoy many graceful and entertaining nights out. Not sure whether to lead or follow? You can choose for yourself in this LGBT environment. Taught by Gene LaPierre Jr., co-organizer of the Philadelphia Liberty Dance challenge and recipient of numerous dance instruction awards. Gene's students have won first place finishes in waltz, foxtrot, samba, rumba, swing and Viennese waltz.

Beginner's Country Line Dancing Registration Closed
Have you ever sat on the sidelines at Woody's and thought, how in the heck are they doing that but were too intimidated to throw yourself into the mix? This course will teach you the very basics of Country Line Dancing and will equip you with the skills you need to be a rising-star on the dance floor. Depending on the level of the participants, dances will include: Tush Push, Texas Cha Cha, Chill Factor and many other beginner and intermediate dances. Put on those cowboy/girl boots and get ready for some two steppin' fun! Instructor Michael Flynn has taught Country and Western Line Dancing at Woody's for the past twenty years.

Gentle Hatha Yoga: Senior Stretch Registration Closed
As we grow older, we typically move less because of common aging-related problems such as: reduced joint flexibility, arthritis/bursitis, high blood pressure, increased body fat and decreased lean
body tissue, osteoporosis, low back pain, and breathing difficulties. Yoga, a practice that has been around for thousands of years, has been shown to not only improve movement, but can help alleviate some of these conditions. The class will emphasize postures that help strengthen muscles, increase range of motion, improve alignment, and increase balance. All this while having fun, and being social! Fight Like a Girl Registration Closed
"Fighting like a girl" means that a woman brings her particular strengths to the conflict while minimizing the strengths of an attacker. This course specializes in teaching this philosophy as well as associated techniques. Situations will include ground and standing attacks. Classes will include a live training of the techniques with an instructor in a protective suit which allows students to practice their skills at full speed and intensity. Instructors Ray Huxon is a level 2 Fight Like A Girl instructor, the head Instructor at The Philadelphia Judo Club, is a brown belt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Nidan (Second Degree Black Belt) Tomiki Ryu Aikido and Alma Qualli is a level 2 Fight Like A Girl instructor, an assistant instructor at The Philadelphia Judo Club, Qualli also holds a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Ikkyu (First Degree Brown Belt) Tomiki Ryu Aikido.

Running and Nutrition: Couch to 5-K or any Running Distance Registration Closed
This class will teach students the proper nutrition for endurance sports such as running: the focus will be on the right percentage of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Further, the class will focus on overall nutrition: timing, hydration, and supplements. This class will aim to help both the beginner (who may be focusing on weight loss) and the experienced (who may be trying to improve on his or her finish time). Instructor Pearlette Toussant has participated in various local and national runs including: the Philadelphia Marathon, the Broad Street Run, and the Philadelphia Distance Run and is certified as a nutritionist through the International Sports Sciences Association.

ZUMBA©Registration Closed
ZUMBA© is an aerobic workout which fuses latin rythym and fitness while burning 600 calories per workout! Taught by Dara Patrusky, Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow the participants to dance away their worries. No dance experience is necessary, just bring your attitude and enthusiasm! It is based on the principle that a workout should be "FUN AND EASY TO DO". Zumba is a "feel-happy" workout that is great for both the body and the mind. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps.

American Sign Language Registration Closed
American Sign Language, or ASL, is a complete, complex language that employs signs made w ith the hands and other movements, including facial expressions and postures of the body. It is the first language of many deaf North Americans, and one of several communication options available to deaf people, and is said to be the fourth most commonly used language in the United States. This beginner's class is an introduction to the basics of signing to build foundation for fluency. Michael Flynn instructs this class which is mea n t to be interactive wi t h supplementary worksheets.

Creating a Space for Ourselves: a historical walking tour of Philadelphia's Gayborhood Registration Closed
We'll begin in Rittenhouse Square, home base for 50s beatniks, rebels and queers, then trace the expansion of those "Spruce Street boys" up "Lurid Locust" to form a gay identified oasis in the center of Frank Rizzo's repressive Philadelphia. We'll talk about bars, community spaces and political activism, have coffee at a gayborhood cafe, and end our day with a visit to the extensive collections of the William Way Center's John J. Wilcox Jr. Library and Archives. Wear comfortable walking shoes, and cameras encouraged. Bob has worked as a walking tour guide in Center City for 10 years, heads the archival collections at the WWCC, and directs his own historical dance company, "Mixed Pickles Vintage Dance."

Create a Resume That Works for You Registration Closed
No matter what position you are looking for, a good resume is essential. This is an introductory resume building class. If you have never had a resume before, this class will help you create one no matter what your previous experience has been. If you already have a resume, this class will help you focus and improve it. Each student should bring their existing resume or biographical information such as school graduation dates and dates for previous positions held. A limited number of laptops will be on site for use and by the end of the class, each student will have a resume to take away with them. Instructor Corbett Klein is a 12 year employee at Merk,& Co., Inc., is a Council Member of Out and Equal Philadelphia, and assisted in a resume clinic a the national conference Out for Work in Washington, DC where he assisted participants in resume improvement. Coming Out Under Fire: A Discussion of Don't Ask, Don't Tell
Did you know that the first person ever discharged from the army for being a gay man was in 1776 under General George Washington? This is a two part workshop dealing with the issues of LGBT people in the military and the ramifications of "don't ask, don't tell" Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Americans have always served in the Armed Forces; this course will focus on the history of service and discrimination from WWII to present. Instructor Mike Felker will discuss his experience as a gay Vietnam Veteran as well as show two documentary films as a jumping off point for class dialogue.

Find out what abuse and relational aggression means, how to help individuals avoid and get away from it, and what differences exist for people in the LGBTQ community. Learn the resources that exist for LGBTQ people in an abusive relationship. Sharon Cole is a published journalist and a certified domestic violence advocate trained by Women in Transition and Women Against Abuse. Cole is also a trained sexual assault counselor trained by Women Organized Against Rape.
