Out and Faithful’s Interfaith Breakfast
Friday, February 12, 7:30am
William Way LGBT Community Center
1315 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
Join the William Way Center’s Out and Faithful Committee as they host the second annual Interfaith Breakfast featuring guest speaker the Rev. Chris Glaser. This year’s topic remains marriage equality for same sex partners. This time last year Proposition 8 rocked the community and 12 months later, New Jersey becomes the latest state to deny full marriage equality for all: the struggle continues. Join us as Mr. Glaser speaks about what you can do in your congregation to support LGBT people, why marriage matters, and why it’s been so hard for our community to get! There will also be an opportunity for discussion and networking during breakfast which will be catered.
About the Speaker
Glaser received his M.Div. from Yale University Divinity School in 1977 and from 1977 to 1987, he served as founding Director of the Lazarus Project, a ministry of reconciliation between the church and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community in Los Angeles, funded by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) nationally and regionally and located at the West Hollywood Presbyterian Church. After 30 years of struggling with the Presbyterian Church for the right to ordination as an openly gay person, he was ordained to the ministry in MCC on October 2, 2005. Glaser currently serves as interim/transitional pastor of Virginia Highland Church, a UCC and progressive Baptist congregation in the Virginia Highland neighborhood of Atlanta. His eleventh and most recent book, As My Own Soul: The Blessing of Same-Gender Marriage (Seabury Press, 2009) discusses first the taboos around sexuality, then the taboos around the sacred.
